Upgrade XBMC v.13 On Apple TV 2

Hi folks. This tutorial is for the those with an Apple TV 2 that is already jail broken. For some of us, we’ve had our Apple TV 2’s jail broken for quite a while now and XBMC maybe be outdated. There’s nothing wrong with an outdated version of XBMC. When I first jail broke my Apple TV 2, XBMC version 11 was released. And since jail breaking, XBMC has been stuck at version 11. Again, there’s nothing wrong with having an older copy of XBMC; as they say, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. And besides, there maybe some plugins that are not yet compatible with the latest and greatest version of XBMC. But for those who what to use the latest version of XBMC on their Apple TV 2, there’s the easiest way to upgrade. Upgrade XBMC On Apple TV 2 NOW Download yourself a copy of “into Installer” which is available for free and install ( Mac / Windows ). Be sure that your Apple TV 2 (which is already jailbroken) is on the network and yo...

Apple TV: Device Isn't Eligible For The Requested Built

Someone had given me their Apple TV2 to investigate why Netflix stopped working. The Apple TV2 was in firmware version 4.4.4, and it appears that Netflix has stopped working on anything older that version 5. And so the only was to resolve the issue was to load firmware version 5.3 and to get Netflix working again at the same time, jail breaking the Apple TV2 as it was before. So the first thing to do in this situation was to download the latest version if SeasOnPass and run. However, instead of clicking on “Create IPSW”, we need to load an existing IPSW file FIRST. And to load an existing IPSW (version 5.3) was to right click over the “Create IPSW” button. The image below is what you’ll get: After selecting version 5.3, there was a problem. I was not able to load the IPSW file and I received the message “This device isn’t eligible for the requested builded”. I though I was screwed, until I found the solution. Go to http://www.ipswdo...

Apple TV2 ERROR 6000, 6001, 6002, 6003, etc

If you’re like me and you’re going for the iOS 5.0 update on your apple tv2 take note of the follow while trying to update. When trying to update my Apple TV2 with jailbroken firmware, I encountered the following error: “ ERROR 6004 “. Of course, this advice is beneficial to those getting ERROR code 9, 6000, 6001, 6002, 6003, 6004, etc . If you are receiving any error code stated above, it’s probably the connection between your Apple TV and computer. From what I have observed, make sure you use the USB ports directly connected to your motherboard. If I tried to use USB ports connected on the front of my computer case, I would get an error. So what does all this mean? Well, the USB connectors on the front of my case are crap. When I tried a different port on the back of my computer, I was able to successfully update the firmware to my Apple TV2 device. You should also confirm that the USB cable you’re using is also in good form. Another issue you may r...

Install XBMC Onto Apple TV 2

Once you’ve jailbroken your Apple TV, you’ll now need to install the XBMC software to your device, which will basically add a new menu option to the native Apple TV functionality. The following instructions will install and block any updates that iOS may try to prompt on the box. If you are using Putty from a Windows computer, type the IP Address under the Hostname field, use “root” as username and “alpine” as password, without quotation marks obviously. In the Terminal window type the following command, pressing enter after: ssh root@[Apple TV IP Address] Example: ssh root@192.168.3.148 When prompted, type “yes” (without quotations) to continue connecting to the device When prompted to enter a password, type the following:  alpine The text will not show up as you type it, this is normal, once you’ve typed the password just press the Enter key to continue. Run the following commands in Terminal by copying and pasting each of the following lines one at a time, it is important to  wait f...

Should I Jail Break My Apple TV 2?

In two words, “HELL YEAH” Up until a few weeks ago, Apple TV to me was nothing more than a media box to buy, rent and view media from your iTunes software on your computer. If I’ve got it wrong, please feel free to leave me a comment because Apple TV by itself it’s anything to write home about. Out of the box, Apple TV allows viewers to connect to iTunes and rent and buy movies and purchase music. Other options include connecting NetFlix (with subscription), watch YouTube as well as other online video services. Integration with your home media is pretty basic, you’ll need to have iTunes install with Home Sharing turned ON. You’ll then be able to stream media from your iTunes library to your TV. A very cool feature of Apple TV is the ability to PUSH content from iPhone, iPad, and Mac to the Apple TV to display on your TV. Pictures, movies and music can be shared via Apple TV for all to enjoy. So with all these lackluster features, why should one buy an...
