.pkg Files Open Terminal, Don't Install

I ran into this problem I personally haven’t seen before. I downloaded an installation file from LogMeIn. The file downloaded as a .ZIP which I was able to open and out came a .pkg file. When I clicked on the .pkg file, my Terminal window would open. I had no idea what to do. Perhaps a file association was broken? I’ve seen this in Windows plenty of times and familiar with repairing the association. So how to you do this in Mac OS X? So to fix this problem, you need to assicate the .pkg with the Installer application. Where did you look for it? It’s located in /System/Library/CoreServices/. Select a .pkg file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Open With panel select the Installer if it’s listed or find it in the /System/Library/CoreServices/ folder. Select it then click on the Change All button. This fixed my issue, hopefully it get you out of this bind!

Speck See Through Satin Case Review

Here is my review of the Speck See Thru Satin Case.   This case for my 13″ MacBook Pro first caught my attention when I saw it on the train. The See Thru Satin Case completely encloses your case protecting it from bumps and scratches while leaving your ports and CD Rom slot available. The look and feel of Speck’s See Thru Satin Case is very slick, with it’s matte finish. I’ve put together a quick YouTube video reviewing and installing Speck’s See Through Satin Case. Hackintosh Updated From 10.7.2 To 10.7.3 No Audio

So Lion 10.7.3 has been released for a while now and I thought I wouldn’t care to update until June (when I move into my new place). I even locked up my hackintosh hard drives into storage thinking I wouldn’t need them. Well, tonight I got the itch, I went for the 10.7.3 update. It SORT of went well. I got my graphics and App Store working, however, I didn’t get my audio working. I MAY have missed a step, or the audio just stopped working with 10.7.3. If you’re using the same mother broad as I am; Giga GA-G41M-ES2L, the instructions below helped me get my audio restored on my hackintosh. Good luck! Method to get sound  (not mine ) Remove any alc8xx or voodoo from extraextension and system library extension Run given alc887HDA.kext using kext utility Run multi beast check system utilities apple hda rollback Non dsdt HDA enabler alc887888b run reboot REQUIRED DOWNLOADS: KEXT UTILITY ALC87HDA.KEXT

Stream Media From Western Digital MyBookLive To Playbook

If you’re a Playbook owner you should be please to know you can stream media from a media server such as TwonkyMedia to your Blackberry Playbook. Please note this has been tested and working with TwonkyMedia and it’s very easy to do. 1)  Open up the Blackberry Playbook Browser. 2)  Go to TwonkyMedia Browser Page: type in http://<mybook live ip address>:9000/webbrowse eg.  my ip was set to 192.168.0.88 so for me the url is be  http://192.168.0.88:9000/webbrowse 3)  Prove to yourself that it works: Click on the Videos link and pick something to play.  You will see that you can expand to full screen and jump to any point in the video. 4)  Navigate To The Start Page You Want: After playing a video, click BACK to either the TwonkyMedia Start Page or drill down to where you want to start.  For example, if you always want to access Videos, then Bookmark the Videos, which in my case is http://192.168.0.88:9000/webbrowse/O0$3 5)  Save your Favorite to look like an App Icon: Cli...

Install XBMC Onto Apple TV 2

Once you’ve jailbroken your Apple TV, you’ll now need to install the XBMC software to your device, which will basically add a new menu option to the native Apple TV functionality. The following instructions will install and block any updates that iOS may try to prompt on the box. If you are using Putty from a Windows computer, type the IP Address under the Hostname field, use “root” as username and “alpine” as password, without quotation marks obviously. In the Terminal window type the following command, pressing enter after: ssh root@[Apple TV IP Address] Example: ssh root@192.168.3.148 When prompted, type “yes” (without quotations) to continue connecting to the device When prompted to enter a password, type the following:  alpine The text will not show up as you type it, this is normal, once you’ve typed the password just press the Enter key to continue. Run the following commands in Terminal by copying and pasting each of the following lines one at a time, it is important to  wait f...
